FAQ
- If you have questions that are not listed below, please call or text 314.570.3905 or email flyfreeskydiving@gmail.com.
- Reservations CANNOT be made by email. Please call to schedule a jump.
- Leaving a voicemail DOES NOT reserve you a spot. In order to ensure that you are on our schedule, you must to speak with one of our employees over the phone.
- What are my options if I’m a first-time skydiver?
For the safety of first-timers, we require that you do a tandem jump before pursuing AFF or IAD programs. This is to make sure that you know what to expect on future dives and to ensure your safety.
- What are your business hours?
We start jumping on Saturdays and Sundays around 9:00 in the morning, and we jump until sunset, however we DO NOT have regular business hours for our phone line. During the week, calls to our business line are answered and returned by individuals who also work full-time, and the drop zone can be incredibly busy on weekends, so please be patient when waiting for a reply! We are usually able to return calls within 24 hours.
- How do I schedule a skydive?
Pick a day and give us a call! During the summer, make sure to plan ahead since spaces fill up quickly.
In order to make a complete reservation, we will need your name, phone number, how many people are planning to jump, how many people are getting video, and a credit card number. We cannot hold a spot for you without a credit card number unless you have purchased a gift certificate or made a $50 deposit through our website.
- How far in advance do I need to schedule a jump?
It depends on the time of year. During the summer, plan on 3-4 weeks, and during the winter, 2-4 weeks. If you have a large group, these wait times may be longer. We usually DO NOT have same-weekend availability.
- Do you ever feel like you’re falling?
Nope! With skydiving, you feel like you’re floating, never like you’re falling. The plane is going 80 miles per hour when you leave, and you free fall at about 120 miles per hour, so there’s only a 40 mile per hour difference. It takes about 8 seconds after you leave the plane to reach 120 miles per hour, so it’s a slow increase in speed.
- Should I eat beforehand?
Yes! We definitely recommend that you have something to eat an hour or two before you come out for your jump.
- How many people can you fit in the plane?
Our plane can fit one pilot and four skydivers. For tandem jumps, this means we can take two people at a time (two tandem instructors and two passengers).
- What happens if I can’t make it the day I’m scheduled?
We require 24-hour notice if you can’t make it out on the day you’re scheduled, make sure to call and cancel with us. There is a $50 no-show fee PER PERSON SCHEDULED if you do not show up. We understand that sometimes unexpected things come up, and we’re more than happy to get you rescheduled for another time.
- What should I bring?
There’s nothing in particular you need to bring in order to make a jump. Just make sure to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and tennis shoes.
- Can I bring my own camera on the jump?
For the safety of all our jumpers, personal cameras can’t be taken on jumps. We offer two picture and video packages. The first option is $85, which will provide you with hundreds of still photographs and a fully edited DVD with your skydive set to music. With this option, your video will be mailed out to you in 2-4 weeks. There might be special circumstances in which the editing process could take longer. The second option is $50, which includes hundreds of still photographs and the raw video footage. This is a great option for people who are more interested in the skydiving pictures than the video, want to edit their own footage, or are just looking for to save some extra money. With this option, you will get all of your pictures and video clips the same day as your jump.
- How long will it take for me to get my video?
We try our best to get edited videos made, burned, and mailed quickly, but since we also work full-time during the week, it can sometimes take a while. We ask that you expect to receive your video in 2-4 weeks.
- If I am under 18, can I jump with my parents’ permission?
Unfortunately, no. In order to skydive, you must be of age to sign a legal waiver. Under most state laws, parents cannot sign away the rights of a minor.
- Is there an age limit for skydiving?
As long as you’re at least 18, you’re welcome to skydive! We’ve taken people as old as 92 on tandem jumps. You’re never too old to experience the thrill of a good skydive!
- Can my family and friends come to watch?
Of course! Involving your family and friends is a great way to share your skydiving experience with those close to you. We have plenty of space at our hangar for everyone to hang out, watch, and have a great time.
*Note: If you plan on bringing children, please be sure to provide proper supervision for the duration of your stay at the drop zone. We do everything we can to provide a welcoming and safe environment for observers of all ages, but are unable to provide the attention necessary for young children.
- How early should I arrive?
You don’t need to arrive any earlier than your scheduled time, but if you are able to make it in 10-15 minutes early, it would help you get a jump start on the paperwork.
- How much training do I need for a tandem jump?
For a tandem jump, you only need about 10 minutes of instruction from one of our experienced instructors. They’ll tell you everything you need to know in order to have an amazing first jump.
- How long should I plan on being at the drop zone?
It’s difficult to say. It take a minimum of an hour if everything is running smoothly, but there are many factors that can cause delays. For that reason, you should plan on being there for at least a few hours.
- Can we get one tandem video of both me and my friend?
For the safety of all jumpers involved, only one video is allowed per person. All videos are done by our tandem instructors with the use of hand-mounted cameras.
- What should I wear to skydive?
Dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable, lace-up shoes. Tennis shoes work best. We will provide you a jump suit to protect your clothes from grass stains.
- What if I wear glasses?
We provide all of the gear necessary to make your skydive, including goggles that will fit over your glasses.
- Do you offer group or military discounts?
Unfortunately, no. The only discount we offer at this time is a $10 cash discount for our tandem jumps.
- Is there a minimum number of people that need to come in order to book a skydive?
Nope! We can schedule appointments for any size group, big or small.
- What if the weather is bad?
We will make every effort to get you in the air on your scheduled day. However, your safety is our primary concern. We cannot jump through clouds or if the winds are too high. If the weather does not cooperate on the day of your skydive, we will reschedule your skydive for the next available day.
- Do you have a weight limit?
The weight limit is 200-230 pounds, at the discretion of our tandem instructors. Weather can play a role in the amount of weight our instructors feel comfortable taking. On hot, humid days when the air is less dense, we may only be able to take passengers up to 200 pounds. We cannot take passengers who are over 230 pounds.
- How safe is skydiving?
Fly Free Skydiving is a group member of the United States Parachute Association, and strictly adheres to their safety standards. Skydiving is an extreme sport, but with proper training and the right equipment, it is a very safe sport. Every parachute system has a main parachute and a reserve parachute. All of our student rigs have an Automatic Activation Device (AAD) that serves as a safety backup device. When you skydive with Fly Free Skydiving, you will not jump until you have been properly trained to arrive safely back on the ground.
- I bought a gift certificate online. Will you honor it?
Only if you bought the gift certificate directly from us. There are many companies on the internet offering a network of skydiving locations. No such network exists. Before you purchase a skydiving certificate online, be sure you have a physical address of the location for the place you want to jump. Also, get a local phone number for the drop zone and call them to verify that they will accept the certificate. Don’t get taken for a “sky-ride.”
- Do you allow pets?
Unfortunately, our insurance does not permit us to allow pets on the business property. We love your pets as much as you do, but they must stay home.
